Curriculum Outline:
HOLY TRINITY: To understand that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
1. To understand that the way of God is the way of the Church and the way of Christian life.
2. To expand on each person of the Holy Trinity using the definitions presented in the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed.
3. God has given us free will/choice. Dishonesty and poor choices have consequences.
CHURCH HISTORY & TRADITION: To understand the historical roots of both the Church and Holy Tradition.
1. To recognize the inter-relationship between the Bible and Tradition.
2. Distinguish between BC and AD.
WORSHIP & PRAYER: To understand that going to church is a whole way of life and to appreciate that the Church has a rich liturgical tradition of feasts, festal cycles and worship services.
1. Identify the name and date of each of the Major Feast Days.
2. Elaborate on each of these icons.
3. Identify the six gifts that we offer at Liturgy and give the spiritual meaning of each.
4. Explain why the Church blesses Water.
5. Explain why we bless our home.
6. Explain the purpose of the Memorial Service.
7. Amplify the Sacramental knowledge with “hands-on-experience”. Make Prosphoro and Koliva and present names for Liturgy.
8. Review the visible signs of each Sacrament.
9. Explain the following about the Nativity Fast/Advent: purpose, scripture, spiritual vs. commercial preparation.
10. Triodion and Lent: The use of Scripture, explanation the Holy Week and Lenten Services, preparation for Confession, personal preparation, memorization of the Holy Week Services.
11. Holy Wednesday/Holy Unction. Discuss and attend the services.
BIBLE & DOCTRINE: To continue to understand the importance of the Bible and Orthodox doctrine.
1. Be able to locate chapters and verses in both the Old and New Testaments.
2. Explain the connection between the Adam and Eve’s Expulsion from Paradise and the Resurrection.
3. Explain two of the OT prophecies foretelling the coming of the Messiah.
4. Identify major events in Christ’s life.
